Ichtyosaure Stenopterygius, high quality, Singapour
Ichtyosaure Stenopterygius, hight quality, Singapour. Ichthyosaurs are marine diapsid vertebrates, sometimes very large, that resemble current dolphins. Like them, they had to come and breathe the atmospheric air on the surface of the water.
The largest of these was discovered in British Columbia in Canada and described in 2004 as Shonisaurus sikanniensis by Elisabeth Nicholls and Makoto Manabe1, then renamed Shastasaurus sikanniensis in 20112, before returning to its original name in 20133. It was extracted from the Pardonet formation which is dated from the Upper Triassic, (Middle Norwegian), about 220 Ma (million years ago). It is considered to be one of the largest marine animals of all time with a length of about 21 metres.
This large fossil on a wall painting is exceptionally well preserved, a piece of high quality.
